Procedural Worlds
Every world is generated from a seed rather than drawn by hand. Continental, Islands and Archipelago styles create different balances of land, open sea, chokepoints and island chains.
The complete core game is playable now against human commanders or AI, with new units, features, balance improvements and AI upgrades being added throughout the beta.
Frontiers of War is a free, fully playable turn-based browser strategy game of exploration, expansion and conquest. Version 1 is now in Open Beta.
Each campaign begins on a newly generated world of continents, islands and unexplored seas. Explore the map, discover and capture neutral cities, build armies, aircraft and fleets, and fight for control of the world against human commanders or a basic computer-controlled opponent.
Inspired by classic turn-based strategy games, the aim is simple rules with deep decisions: no enormous technology trees and no hundreds of unit types — just territory, production, exploration, tactical decisions and war.
These are images from the live game. Procedural worlds, cities, production, movement, combat, fog of war, turn processing and victory conditions combine into a complete playable campaign.

Every world is generated from a seed rather than drawn by hand. Continental, Islands and Archipelago styles create different balances of land, open sea, chokepoints and island chains.
Capture uniquely named neutral and enemy cities, then put them to work producing new forces. Coastal cities can also launch naval units, making ports strategically important.
Fog of war and persistent exploration limit what you know about the world. Scout beyond your frontier, discover rivals, fight for cities and destroy enemy forces on land and at sea.
Version 1 includes Infantry, Fighters, Destroyers, Transports, Submarines and Armour. Infantry capture cities and fight for territory, Fighters project air power, Destroyers bombard coastal targets and are particularly effective against submarines, Transports carry ground forces across the sea, and Submarines can ambush most approaching enemy units.
Cities produce new units over multiple turns. Ground combat, city assaults, garrisons, amphibious landings, naval movement, shore bombardment, unit damage and destruction are all resolved by the live combat system. Capturing an enemy capital eliminates that commander, and the last active commander wins the war.
Fog of war tracks what your forces can currently see while remembering previously explored territory. Units and cities provide sight, so reconnaissance and positioning matter as the world is uncovered.
Campaigns use asynchronous global turns. Commanders move their forces and mark themselves ready; when everyone is ready the next turn begins immediately. A configurable turn deadline also prevents inactive commanders from stalling a game indefinitely.
Games can be played against human commanders or an AI opponent. The AI can produce forces, expand toward neutral cities, use its full movement allowance, fight enemy units it encounters, switch to attacking enemy cities once neutral expansion is exhausted, capture territory and pursue victory by taking an enemy capital. The full campaign can be played from the opening turn through expansion and war to final victory. AI strategy, balance and unit behaviour will continue to improve throughout the beta.
Version 1 is the fully playable core game. The Open Beta will continue to grow with additional units, deeper combat options, improved AI, interface refinements and other features informed by player feedback.
Frontiers of War Version 1 is fully playable now. Create a world, explore, capture cities, build forces, fight a complete war and win against human or AI opposition. Open Beta means the core game is ready to play while additional units, features, AI improvements, artwork and balance changes continue to be added.
